Imagine turtles hatching under your feet, Azura Quilalea,May
Our guests were all enjoying Pomegranate G&T's at the Beach Bar tonight, when one of the ladies squealed - something was wriggling on her toes in the sand.......as they all looked down, they noticed more wriggling in the sand around the beach bar - to their amazement, little turtle hatchlings were everywhere, all around, scampering in all directions. They had hatched on the beach and quickly became disoriented by the lights. Everybody got to work collecting miniature wriggly turtles and taking them down to the water. Once all the hatchlings were safely dispatched out into the open ocean, our guests sat down for a romantic dinner on the beach - still buzzing from the experience of a lifetime at Azura Quilalea Private Island
Update on Azura Selous
Our team on the ground has been hard at work in the closed season refurbishing the Camp, with a new lick of paint throughout, as well as new decking and gumpoles for the tents and main area. Our Group General Manager Thomas has been onsite for the past couple of weeks, checking all our maintenance works were complete, and welcoming the first guests to what will soon be Azura Selous. We are in a period of transformation which is expected to be complete 1 August, when all the legal work is done and the camp will be fully Azura-ized! Our vision for Azura Selous design wise is ‘bringing the outside inside’, and we are delighted to show you the mood boards for the first 9 tented villas we will refurbish.
Our new look is on its way
Our Elephant tents reflect the bright greens of the surrounding bush, and the vibrant pinks and yellows of the sunsets we see while enjoying sundowners on the banks of the Ruaha.
‘Bringing the Outside Inside’
The Monkey tents reflect the earthy deep rust tones of the soil, as well as the riverbed rocks that are scattered all around, tempered by the calm aqua shades of the river, home to our resident hippos.
With an Azura Chic Twist
The Zebra tents speak for themselves, with a lime green and yellow twist to add the unexpected. Watch out for our next update to see the crocodiles we are planning for the main area!

At Azura Retreats we like to constantly improve our facilities for our guests. Over the past couple of months, we have quietly been renovating and upgrading our properties, to ensure the high standards your guests expect have been maintained. At Azura Benguerra we have added a new Beach Villa, which will be opening 10 April. Popular demand for the existing Beach Villa made it an easy decision for us to add another, now offering a choice of 17 villas in total.
And not only that, both Beach Villas have been given a substantial upgrade, with a new entrance hallway with tea/coffee station and minibar, a huge outside undercover daybed area for relaxing, and a new double outside shower area off the bathroom with better privacy. These 2 villas are super private and perfect for honeymooners. The Presidential Villa has also received some TLC with the 16 meter swimming pool being retiled and the kitchen area upgraded

The Earth, Moon and Sun are aligning for a spectacular show. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon eclipses the sun, but is at its furthest from earth. The moon does not cover the entire sun, leaving a “ring of fire”.
On 1 September 2016, an annular solar eclipse will pass over the remote Quirimbas Archipelago in the North of Mozambique. Azura Quilalea Private Island will be in the centre line of the moon’s shadow – the perfect place to experience this once in a lifetime event! This won’t happen again in the Quirimbas for another 84 years.
Also observe the conjunction of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the moon between 27 August and 3 September while Mars and Saturn are overhead in Scorpius. All 5 visible planets observable simultaneously. Expert Johan Strydom of Lethabo Adventures will be joining us at Azura Quilalea over this period to explain the actual event that is taking place. Other activities to be observed are the conjunction of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon which will be taking place.
Packages starts at USD $4 664 per person sharing for 4 nights. The package includes return flights from Johannesburg to Pemba airport, scenic helicopter return transfers to the Island, 4 nights stay in a beach front villa, stargazing sessions, all meals and local drinks.
If you prefer to experience a Partial Eclipse in the bush, we have the perfect place for you! A 90% Eclipse can also be observed from our luxury safari property in Tanzania, Azura Selous Game Reserve.
