You will normally do at least one game drive per day, tracking and looking for wildlife, following fresh footprints or off-roading through ravines to get the perfect photo. Azura Selous is lucky enough to be home range for 3 prides of lion (the Azura pride has up to 21 members) and some 6 highly territorial leopards nearby, with one female and her cub particularly fond of lazing in a tree and posing for the camera. There are more wild dog in the Selous than anywhere else in Africa, and whilst they can roam up to 40km a day, and can be difficult to spot, we have been lucky enough that one of the area’s 3 wild dog packs has denned near us for 2 of the past 3 years, giving our guests daily sightings of pups from June to October. See the National Geographic coverage here.
All our game drives are in custom made LandRover 4 x 4 vehicles that have open sides and raised seating, ideal for comfortable game viewing and photography. The cars hold from 2-6 people, so the whole experience of coming to stay with us is a very personal one. Game drives are best taken from sunrise, accompanied by a bush breakfast, then again late afternoon, loaded with sundowner snacks and drinks. We are not constrained by time or distance, our guides are the best trained in the Selous, and will take great pride in showing you all that this vast reserve has to offer. We are often able to offer a private vehicle, which can be guaranteed for a supplement.
